Vedanta teaches that the world you take to be solid is an imaginary projection upon Brahman — mithyā, not to be clung to. The human birth alone carries the freedom of self-effort: to know your own nature (svadharma), and at every turn choose the higher good (śreya) over the merely pleasant (preya), until desire itself is exhausted and only the Self remains. Ten crossroads. Every choice bends the path.
Every other creature treads a pre-ordained path — a tiger cannot turn vegetarian, a cow cannot hunt. You alone hold the choice of action, the power of self-effort to evolve or devolve. Ten crossroads lie ahead. At each, the good and the pleasant will both call to you.
