GUNAS - 3 Mental-Temperaments

Understanding the Three Gunas

According to Vedantic philosophy, all existence is governed by three fundamental qualities or energies known as the Gunas. These are not separate entities but different modes of nature's manifestation. Every action, thought, and emotion reflects a combination of these three qualities. Understanding your personal Guna profile can help you identify your strengths, recognize areas for growth, and guide your spiritual practice.

Sattva (Purity)

The quality of harmony, balance, light, and truth. Sattvic nature seeks knowledge, peace, and unity. It is the quality of clarity and wisdom, leading to spiritual growth and self-realization.

Rajas (Activity)

The quality of passion, action, and desire. Rajasic nature is driven by ego, ambition, and attachment to results. It creates dynamism but also restlessness, craving, and confusion.

Tamas (Inertia)

The quality of darkness, heaviness, and ignorance. Tamasic nature leads to lethargy, delusion, and lack of discernment. It creates obstruction and resistance to growth.

Rate each parameter on all three qualities (Sattva, Rajas, Tamas) from 1 to 10. Each row must sum to exactly 10.

Understanding Your Results

Sattva represents purity, knowledge, and harmony. A higher Sattva percentage indicates clarity of thought, calmness, and spiritual inclination.

Rajas represents passion, activity, and desire. A higher Rajas percentage indicates ambition, restlessness, and attachment to results.

Tamas represents inertia, darkness, and ignorance. A higher Tamas percentage indicates lethargy, confusion, and resistance to change.

The goal of spiritual practice is to progressively increase Sattva while reducing Rajas and Tamas. This chart serves as a starting point for self-reflection, not a definitive assessment.
